Mexican Singer Vicente Fernandez to Retire from Performing

 

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Singer Vicente Fernandez announced Thursday that he will be retiring from the stage after making a concert tour through Central and South America, Spain, the United States and his native Mexico.
“I want them to know that I’m leaving,” said the performer at a press conference in Guadalajara.
With a career spanning more than 45 years, the singer of “La ley del monte” and “Mujeres divinas” is considered to be one of the icons of Mexican music.
The father of singer Alejandro Fernandez, the so-called “Charro de Huentitan” popularized ranchera music in Mexico and throughout the Spanish-speaking world.
At the press conference to announce his international tour, Fernandez said that he made the decision to “definitively” retire on Wednesday evening since “an artist needs to retire with great dignity.”
In remarks to Televisa, the singer and actor, who turns 72 next week, emphasized that “courage is needed” to leave the stage before bringing shame on oneself and before one’s voice “can disappoint the public.”
“It’s out of love and respect for the public and for myself,” he said after announcing “with all the sadness in the world” that this year will be the last one in which he will take to the stage.
He explained that after concluding the tour he will devote himself to enjoying being with his children and grandchildren on his ranch outside Guadalajara, but he will continue recording albums and doing some television programs. EFE
